Bark (not the dog)

After working for some years in commercial digital art, I find myself being drawn to walking my own creative path. Exploring all kinds of materials in my sketchbooks.

I've always been fascinated by textures. Whenever one catches my eye, I have to take a photo of it. One of these is bark.

To me, working in my sketchbooks is a totally different way of creating than working digitally. I feel insecure about my abilities, like I forgot how to draw and not knowing my materials. But that's also the exciting part of it. Allowing yourself to be a beginner once more.

For my digital art I already made hand painted textures, which I scanned and used as layers in Photoshop or Procreate for my illustrations.

Making textures allows me to get to know the materials and experiment freely with them.

There will probably be more painting and drawing coming to this blog. Or perhaps I'm going to post on Substack. Not sure yet.

In any case, I made a YouTube short for this post. Like it says, it's really short :)

Artful day to you,

xx

Daily walks

It's Autumn, next to early Spring it's my favourite season. Yet we have to stay at home as much as possible because of the C-virus which is spreading like wildfire for the second time this year. I long for the woods, the long walks, smelling the earth and hearing the wind through the rustling leaves.

Lying on my belly to take photos of mushrooms.

Bye bye mess stress: Tackling the biggest mess

Some time ago I published a blog post on a blog that is no longer available, where I talked about my process of getting rid of the mess in my home. Going through the third big round of decluttering at this very moment, I found that it is a topic I would like to share more of. Because I come across a whole lot of people that go through a similar process or wish they were able to do so. Please know, this is my personal process and my personal choice of living. I do not pretend to live a better life than anyone else. I just happen to be happier with very little stuff around me and know there are more people feeling this way. So here is my story, about the first round of decluttering I did, the biggest of the three rounds.

Book love

I love books. I have shelves and shelves filled with books.
Mostly how-to-do-this-or-that books
but also some beautiful old books and some novels.

Changing but still me

Do you feel like you need a change, now or once in a while?

A little bird told me

Dear friends,

A little bird told me today that you are a beautiful and generous soul,
who deserves a big warm hug and a happy smile
for your sweet faithfulness in visiting me and leaving me uplifting messages!

Pathways of Snowdownia

Pathways cross the mountains and hills of Snowdonia.

Red jackets against the sky and rocks.
Following the footsteps of many before them.
