Book love

I love books. I have shelves and shelves filled with books.
Mostly how-to-do-this-or-that books
but also some beautiful old books and some novels.

What I love most is when a book helps me grow as a person or helps me learn a new skill.
At the moment I'm teaching myself how to knit and crochet for example.
With the help of books. And youtube :)

was done after reading some pages of a book by India Flint about eco dyeing.

I used an easy dye technique, of which I wrote a little tutorial on my AppleApricot blog.
(Scroll down in that blog post because first I show the fabric heart I made.)

Mentioned book by India Flint is the book top right on the picture below:

Some of my favourite books you see above are:

* Stitch Stories, by textile artist Cas Holmes
* Eco Colour, by textile artist India Flint
* Oer, de kracht van kijken, by nature photographers Martin Kers and Willem Kolvoort
* Thornburn's Birds, with bird illustrations by the painter Archibald Thorburn

Another book I'd like to share with you
Filled with the beautiful paintings and illustrations by Beatrix Potter,
and with photos and stories about her love for and life in her garden.

Besides being the well known illustrator, Potter was also immensely interested in natural history
- archaeology, geology, entomology, and mycology.

That is what's so fascinating about her, I think.
Being artistic AND scientific.

Are you reading a book at the moment?
Is there one you particularly love?

xx

  6. Oh my lovely friend, what a most beautiful post.
Not only your gorgeous heart, which I love seeing over and again, in it`s beauty,-but also the books you show here,- of which the two (India Flint and Cas Holmes) are also on my shelves :-)
Your fhoto material is stunning Wen, and I can see the Beatrix Potter bog, will be on my wishlist , it looks so lovely and beautiful, and certainly worth reading .

  7. I use to read more when I was younger than I do now. I love you tube because I learn so much easier by watching then reading instructions. I also use to read all of Maeve Binchy and Rosmunde Pilcher books, but I think my crafts and taking all the hikes that we do have taken up the time that I use to read. These all were great examples of books your reading!

  8. Hello, Wen, I'm enjoying some 'down time' browsing your blog. I love this post and how you have presented some of your favourite books. It's funny, but I have been taking lots of pictures of some of my books - my favourite fairytales, in preparation for a blog post. It's a colourful post, though, and quite different from my usual blog posts, and I wondered if it's time for me to try to split my blog ideas, or should I keep going as my blog is fairly new and I don't have many readers anyway... what do you think? I'm not sure I could keep up 2 blogs at once - but then maybe it's better to have less posts that are more related? I'd love your ideas on this, as you've been through it already.

BTW, have you seen the beautiful sad movie called 'Miss Potter'? I loved it.
    Hugs,
    Jesse
